Describe your topicEdit
Welcome Grade 4 students. The topic for today's class is weather and can anyone tell me something about weather. What is it that you know about weather?
Moving on we will be focusing on the types of weather as well as the instruments used for the different elements of weather.
First we will start off by giving the definition of weather.
Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a particular time and place. Weather is all around us. It is an important part of our lives and one that we cannot control. Weather can be describe in many different kind of way such as sunny, stormy, rainy, cloudy, windy, as well as snowy .
Sunny weather is when the atmosphere is free of clouds and the sun is giving off its light rays. Sunny weather doesn’t always mean it is hot because there can be cold and windy temperatures which can be present on a sunny day.
During a stormy weather the wind is very strong and heavy. It is dangerous to go out on this day so people rather to stay in.
On a rainy weather the atmosphere is filled with clouds, in the clouds it is filled with rain so when the clouds get really thick the rain droplets begins to fall causing rainfall. Therefore on a rainy weather the atmosphere is wet.
On a cloudy day, the sun's rays are blocked from reaching Earth's surface. However, it can still be warm on a cloudy day because cloud cover can trap in heat near the ground. Almost always, rain is associated with clouds.
On a Windy Weather, The wind is blowing too hard and fast. Windy days are primarily formed as a warm air mass rises upward and cold air rushes in to fill the vacuum. Wind gusts also form as air is pushed into smaller and smaller spaces.
There are many different kind of weather instruments however let us first talk about the weather element, and these elements include air pressure, sunshine, precipitation, wind speed, temperature and wind direction. The weather instruments used to measure these elements are barometer; the barometer is used to measure air pressure. Sunshine recorder is used to record the amount of sunshine at a given location. Rain Gauge measures the amount of rain that has fallen over a time. Anemometer is used to measure wind speed. Thermometer is used to measure the air atmosphere, how hot or the cold the atmosphere is. Finally the wind vane is used to determine the direction of the wind.
